Building a Strong Local Economy

Economic growth starts by creating opportunities and supporting the businesses that keep Lafourche moving forward.

Make small businesses a priority — small business incentives to improve quality of life. Working on a package for small business incentives
Focus on Blighted Property working to bring back into use or clearing the way for new development.
Attracting business investment for high paying quality jobs through a new and re-envisioned Department of Economic Development

Results We’ve Already Achieved:

$40M secured for economic development through the Industrial Development Board recruiting a $10M investment from a hospitality company that has already produced in additional $250K in sales tax revenue per year. And a $30M investment from a Food Distribution company that retained 100 jobs and added 100 additional jobs.
$15M economic impact generated through partnership with Bollinger. Worked with local major employer Bollinger to secure $15M to harden and improve utilities to allow for future growth within the Lockport and greater Lafourche area.
Certified Site achieved at the Port Fourchon Galliano Air Port The first site to ever receive certification in Lafourche Parish.

Roads, Drainage & Facilities That Work

Strong infrastructure that protects neighborhoods, improves safety, and reduces flooding.

Continue to hold FEMA accountable for remaining Hurricane Ida recovery costs. Lafourche Parish Government has a $150M in total damages and Mitch has gotten FEMA to obligate $113M. He know the processes, contacts, and has the know how to continue moving forward.
Ensure infrastructure investments across the parish have clear funding for real projects. Mitch will continue to focus on projects such as;
- North: West Thibodaux Interior Drainage Improvements. Completed Sugar Ridge Pump Station. In design for Rodrigue #8 in Chackbay (partially funded)
- Central: Butch Hill Pump Station 100% designed. Working with Capital Outlay and CPRA to match local funding for this $25M Pump Station.
- South: Finalizing the engineering on Westside Drainage. $5M project to addresses drainage along Hwy 3235 (the backroad). Working with School System to improve drainage around Cut Off Elementary to the tune of $1M

Continued investment in recreational and public facilities across the parish.
- North: Completed design phase of new multipurpose recreational and head start site near Veterans Park ($10M)
- Central: Turfing all baseball fields in Raceland ($2M). Lockport recently completed ($1M). New Visitors Center to support the tourism industry across the Parish ($2M)
- South: Constructing new Lady of the Sea – Larose Clinic ($10M) Health Unit ($3.5M) and Galliano Library ($7M)

What We’ve Done Already:

$75M planned for stormwater pump station improvements.
$7M completed with $10M in enhancements underway at current pump stations
Innovative solutions expanded Head Start access through public libraries.
Automated monitoring added to major pump stations with a public online interface.

Protecting Our Way of Life

Protecting the coast means protecting faith, family, culture, and home.

Continue to strengthen working relationships with ConocoPhillips, Ducks Unlimited, Chevron, Shell, and CPRA to bring more funding to Lafourche for Coastal Protection and Restoration.
Continue to partner with levee districts (NLLD and SLLD) to ensure the parish receives its fair share of funding for levee and coastal projects from state and federal agencies
Focus on long-term projects to strengthen our communities today and for future generations such as the proposed Coastal Land Bridge and Delivery of the Grand Bayou freshwater reintroduction project, and Progress on terracing, marsh creation, and barrier island restoration.
